When I read this article, I was reminded of the “No soup for you!” line from Seinfeld.  If you don’t follow the cook’s rules, you don’t get soup!

Microsoft is taking a similar approach, blocking security updates if you’re using Intel and AMD’s latest processors, but not Microsoft latest operating system, Windows 10.

As detailed in their support article, the following processors are affected by this policy:

  • Intel seventh (7th)-generation processors
  • AMD “Bristol Ridge”
  • Qualcomm “8996″

What does this mean for you?

Unless you purchase a computer with older processor technology, which we don’t recommend, you will no longer have an option to downgrade to Windows 7.  This is another shove towards Windows 10, from Microsoft, to get you onboard with their latest operating system.

We’ve been using and recommending Windows 10 for some time, now.  After all, Windows 7’s end of life is January 14th, 2020, so even if you did purchase a new computer, you’d need to upgrade the operating system in under three years.
